It's important to be heroic, ambitious, productive, efficient, creative, and progressive, but these qualities don't necessarily nurture soul. The soul has different concerns, of equal value: downtime for reflection, conversation, and reverie; beauty that is captivating and pleasuring; relatedness to the environs and to people; and any animal’s rhythm of rest and activity.
If you're having difficulty coming up with new ideas, then slow down. For me, slowing down has been a tremendous source of creativity. It has allowed me to open up -- to know that there's life under the earth and that I have to let it come through me in a new way. Creativity exists in the present moment. You can't find it anywhere else.
"That’s all you need to feel when you want to create something new. That’s the only affirmation that truly frees you to go with the flow, and to have fun while you’re doing it. Use your desire to set up your intent, ask, affirm that it is yours already and have a cup of tea, or go play! Lighten up. Leave it to gestate. Stop pulling up the shoots to look at the roots. Stop opening the oven. Stop standing in front of an empty shelf at the supermarket waiting for the Tim Tams to materialize. It’s NOT HELPING! In fact it’s hindering! Many of you have done plenty of asking, but are not making space to receive effectively. To keep noticing from a place of lack that you don’t have something you want keeps it away from you!"
Always remember one thing: whenever it is a question of choice between the old and the new, always choose the new, whatsoever the cost, and you will never be a loser. Choose the old and you have chosen death, and you have rejected life.
There are moments, dark moments, monents of pain and hurt and aches and bruises. There are dark nights but they are part of the whole game. Without the dark night you cannot have a bright morning, and without the hurt, without the pain, you cannot enjoy either. They go together. Only dead people go beyond pain and then they go beyond pleasure too.
