Though they are so great

Though they are so great, so glorious, so pure, so wonderful, that the very sight of them (if we were allowed to see them) would strike us to the earth, as it did the prophet Daniel, holy and righteous as he was, yet they are our fellow-servants and our fellow-workers, and they carefully watch over and defend even the humblest of us.

~Cardinal Newman

Angels can fly

Good thoughts

Good thoughts will produce good actions and bad thoughts will produce bad actions. Hatred does not cease by hatred at any time; hatred ceases by love.

Nowhere

Nowhere can man find a quieter or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul.
~Marcus Aurelius

If the past

"If the past is angry, then I must be tolerant and loving .If the past is lost in a dark place, I will light a torch to illuminate the way. If the past is in need, then I will have compassion and respect for it. If the past is lonely, I will be its loving friend."
~Anonymous

When the superficial

When the superficial wearies me, it wearies me so much that I need an abyss in order to rest.
~ Antonio Porchia

What I give

"What I give form to in daylight is only one percent of what I have seen in darkness."

My brother used to ask

My brother used to ask the birds to forgive him; that sounds senseless but it is right; for all is like the ocean, all things flow and touch each other; a disturbance in one place is felt at the other end of the world. It may be folly to beg forgiveness of the birds, but the birds would be happier at your side - a little happier anyway - and children and all animals, if yourself were nobler than you are now. It's all like an ocean, I tell you. Then you would pray to the birds, too, consumed by all-embracing love in a sort of transport and pray that they will forgive you your sin. Prize this ecstasy, nowever senseless it may seem to men.

~Dostoyevski

Excite the soul

Excite the soul, and the weather and the town and your condition in the world all disappear; the world itself loses its solidity, nothing remains but the soul and the Divine Presence in which it lives.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson
